    Meet The cast

Roger Beery & J. CAGE CELLARS:

For some, winemaking is a legacy. For Roger Beery, his late wife, Donna, and their children, it is a calling. They are a family from Austin, Texas and Colorado who were drawn to northern Sonoma County for different reasons. Their son, Conch, studied winemaking and settled here after traveling the world learning his craft. Their daughter, Whitney, came to

California to build a career in wine hospitality. Roger and Donna followed what they called their Wine-Stained Dream; a passion for Pinot Noir that turned them into wine writers and then, winemakers. Each of them came to California seeking something different but shared a mutual respect for honesty and integrity in winemaking. Roger, Conch and Whitney decided to combine their training and talents to craft J. Cage wines. They are the  Beery family.

At J. Cage Cellars, the philosophy is traditional and non-interventionist making handcrafted wines in small lots. It begins in the vineyard, which is the great voice of wine. J. Cage seeks out sites that deserve to sing solo, and then with balance and restraint in the cellar, allow unique vineyards to be heard. Conch, with over ten harvests under his belt, and consulting winemaker, Adam Lee of Siduri, have developed the celebrated and sought after J, Cage style.

“Working together to create a winery for the generations, dedicated to the finest handcrafted wines, is both exhilarating and rewarding. Each time we share J. Cage wines, it is apparent that the reality has become even better than the dream itself.”

    -Roger Beery

    Stu Lerner & LERNER PROJECT:

Proprietor Stu Lerner has spent the last four decades nurturing his deep appreciation for the great vineyards and wines of Napa Valley. He has shared his journey over the years with his wife, Karen. More recently, alongside winemaker and business partner Russell Bevan, the Lerners’ have turned their dream of their own Napa Valley winery into reality. As a major wood pallet vendor to Napa Valley and Sonoma County for over four decades, Stu enjoyed a career as an important player in the wine industry supply chain. His connections with such wineries as Silver Oak and Robert Mondavi, including the iconic Opus One, put him in the unique position of being both a purveyor and a collector. Once retired from his successful business in 2014, Stu's attention shifted in a different, but related, direction. In the process of amassing a collection of some of the most sought-after wines ever produced in Napa Valley, Karen recalls him saying many times that if he ever made a wine, it would have to be something he'd also want to buy himself. It's hard, demanding work – the opposite of retirement. But, being a hands-on kind of guy, he wouldn't change anything about the artisan nature of Lerner Project.

“My feeling as to why I do it is this: one, I like physical work; and two, I can literally say that I touched every bottle in some way."

    -Stu Lerner

    Elton Potts & Vine Vault:

Potts is the founder and managing partner of Vine Vault. Driven by a passion to create remarkable wine experiences for his members and customers, whether it is storing, delivering, moving wine, or enjoying an awesome tasting, Potts creates the best experience for all those that

share the love of good wine. His background running global storage and logistics businesses combined with his love of wine and wine collecting, allows him to focus on both creating and executing the experiences a wine enthusiast will love and appreciate.

Born after Elton and his wife, Alessandra, experienced frustrations in wine shipping and storage, today Vine Vault is a national business providing fully refrigerated white glove wine shipping to over 10,000 zip codes in 23 states. Both Elton and Alessandra are premier wine collectors with a personal collection of over 10,000 wines from all over the world and Vine Vault was created to address the problems they personally experienced as wine lovers and collectors. From running out of space in the home, common carriers subjecting prized bottles to extreme temperatures and rough handling, packing up and moving the cellar when buying a new house, and finding a bottle that should have been enjoyed 10 years ago, Vine Vault addresses the challenges of wine collecting. With a a team of wine collectors, Sommeliers, logistics/storage professionals, and hard-working people who desire to delight wine lovers.

“Some of our most epic wine tasting experiences have started with me envisioning an evening of wine that would truly excite myself and other wine lovers and turning it into reality.”

    -Elton Potts
