Music and Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM, Book by JAMES LAPINE
“Once upon a time” is a well-known beginning of many stories and is also the opening of
the musical INTO THE WOODS by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. This show
intertwines many of the fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and creates a new story of
wishes, consequences, deception, magic, and getting a storybook ending. The show
follows a Baker and his wife who are wishing for a family, Cinderella who wishes to go to
the Prince’s Ball, Jack and mother who wish for a better life, and Little Red who wishes
to visit her grandmother. They are also met with more characters such as a magical
Witch, Rapunzel and her Prine, a big bad Wolf, and a Giant. Follow along as they come
together to help each other to get their wishes. However, remember: be careful what
you wish for.
